Dr. Jonathan Fitz Gerald, an assistant professor of biology at Rhodes, has published a peer-reviewed research article in the on-line journal PLoS One (Public Library of Science). The article is titled “DNA Methylation Causes Predominant Maternal Controls of Plant Embryo Growth” and is co-published with Ming Luo, Abed Chaudhury, and Frederic Berger.

Fitz Gerald is a plant geneticist who joined the Rhodes faculty in 2007. Although he studies plants, the reproductive mechanism he studies is conserved in both plants and mammals. His research aims to understand the “battle of the sexes” between the mother and father that takes place in the embryo after fertilization.

Prior to coming to Rhodes, he was a post-doctoral research assistant at the Temasek Lifesciences Laboratory at the National University of Singapore. He holds a B.S. from the University of California at Irvine and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
