Rhodes College paid tribute to staff on May 14 with its annual Service Recognition Luncheon held in the Catherine Burrow Refectory on campus. Four Rhodes employees were recognized with the college’s 2008 Outstanding Staff Awards.

This year’s recipient of the Outstanding Administrative Services Staff award is Housekeeper Eleanor Franklin. One nominator wrote, “She goes the extra mile and does the little things that make a big difference.” Another shared, “An exceptional employee, she always greets us with a smile. She takes pride in a job well done and consistently delivers just that!”

Media Center Supervisor Rose Ann Hicks received the Outstanding Administrative Staff award. Her nominators describe her as “an avid learner, a wonderful collaborator, and someone who makes services work even when the center is short-staffed.”  Although inventory in her area has more than quadrupled, she has taken media services to a new level of service and technology.

Outstanding Administrator awards were presented to Jeff Cleanthes, Head Baseball Coach, and Tracy Adkisson ’95, Associate Director of Physical Plant.

Cleanthes has been described as a mentor who inspires students to participate fully in all that they do. According to a colleague, Cleanthes stands out because “It’s his ability to put the players first--staying at the office or on the field from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. because he knows a player needs his advice or assistance. His greatest asset is his concern for the welfare of each player.”

Adkisson has been described as a “stellar employee” and a problem solver who “works diligently with students and parents to resolve issues.” Her leadership transcends departmental lines as she works to re-engineer recycling programs, address staff training needs, coordinate efforts to reduce the college’s carbon footprint, and facilitate the development of several other projects.

At the luncheon, Rhodes president William E. Troutt also recognized the collaborative work being done by Rhodes staff.  Beginning with the 2008-2009 academic year, “We will add a “TEAM RHODES” Award to the four staff awards currently being given,” Troutt told attendees.
