Carden is Winner in Economics Essay Contest

Art Carden, assistant professor in Rhodes’ Department of Economics and Business Administration, is the third prize winner of the 2007 Olive W. Garvey Fellowship Contest. The contest, for junior higher education faculty and students, is held every other year.

This year’s contest drew 600 applicants from 48 U.S. states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico; 57 countries, and 6 continents. They were asked to submit an essay addressing the question, “Is foreign aid the solution to global poverty?”  Carden’s winning essay is “Can’t Buy Me Growth: On Foreign Aid and Economic Change.”
